Adding stowage to a vehicle adds to the visible appearance and makes it look like the vehicle is in use. Legend Productions has come out with a nice looking set for the Sdkfz.222 with some visibly nice fitting stowage to add that used look to this 4-wheel reconnaissance vehicle.
Inside the box is multiple pieces of cast resin, covering most items you would find on this vehicle from general tarps, boxes, and individual soldier equipment.
Some of the items include:
- Tarp and box for the rear
- Jerry can rack with Jerry cans for front mount
- Jerry can and tarp for fender
- Spare wheel with cover
- 3 helmets
- 3 gas mask canisters
- 3 spades
- 3 canteens
- Buckets and other stowage items
Opening the box, you will find all the parts packed inside a plastic zip bag. The parts are cast in a light grey resin, with some parts having rather large pour plugs. The resin casting look very good, showing great detail with no flash. Due to the large pour plugs on some of the parts, there will need to be some extensive cleanup of those parts done.
On first inspection, I did notice that 3 of the jerry can handles, which are molded separately, had broken, probably due to the packaging. Fortunately the parts were found in the bag, and should be able to be used when assembling them. Also, the caps for the jerry cans are separate casts and should add to the nice detail once assembled.
The cover for the spare tire is done very nicely, and compared to the original part from the Hobby Boss kit, it is definitely a great replacement. The rear stowage is cast as one piece, with a tarp, box, and helmet, and looks great. A dry fitting onto the Hobby Boss kit show it should fit well with a little sanding.
The fender mounted jerry can with tarp also looks to fit well. The front mounted jerry can rack has some great looking detail as well. There is plenty of smaller stowage parts as well, to include helmets, canteens, spades, etc, that can be used to added that “lived in” look by attaching to various locations on the vehicle.
There are no instructions included in the set, so the builder can use their own imagination as to where they might want to mount the stowage equipment. As there is no instructions, there is no painting guidelines as well, so you will have to source the colors elsewhere, and thus you can match the theatre you wish to match.
Overall this is a great looking stowage set from Legend Productions. The stowage should add some great visible detail to you build. I did find a few broken parts, most likely from packaging, and there will be need to be some clean up done once removed from the pour plugs, but nothing that an average modeller can’t complete. If you are planning a build of the Sd.Kfz.222, I would definitely recommend this great looking stowage set.
