Legend Productions continues to rapidly increase their range of 3D mastered small arms and elements. In this review I am taking a look at two offerings for the M134D mini gun in the form of ammunition boxes and batteries.
As with most of the smaller sets from Legend Productions, these two offerings are packed in the end opening card cartons with a shrink wrapped plastic around it. Inside of this there is a Ziploc bag containing all of the resin castings for the products. In my case this resulted in both sets arriving in good order with a couple of the parts having separated from the casting bloc. The two sets looked at here have long titles and are:
LF3D059 – 3,000/4,000 round M134D Spare Magazines and Battery Box set
LF3D060 – M134D Sapre 3,000 round 3-Bay Ammunition cans (MMC System) and Battery Box set
I have taken a very close look at these offerings from Legend Productions and I am very pleased with what I have found or should I say not found. The moulding are all free of issues such as air bubbles that can be the bane of resin products. I am particularly pleased at the connection between the ammunition boxes and the casting blocks; Legend Productions has placed a ‘V’ connection between the two pieces that means a gentle rocking of the parts frees one from the other and makes for an easy cleaning job. One thing that I feel is a spelling error is the name of set LF3D060 and it is my belief that Sapre is supposed to be Spare.
Set LF3D059 contains six ammunition boxes with very fine detail provided. The connector between the feed chute and the ammunition box is a separate part and has allowed for a very nice degree of detail to be provided. Included are six batteries with two designs provided as three of each. The battery is the same but three of them have a carrying frame attached.
Set LF3D060 also contains six ammunition boxes with very fine detail provided. Again the connector between the feed chute and the ammunition box is a separate part and has allowed for a very nice degree of detail to be provided. This set only offers one style of battery but I am happy enough with that.
Looking at both sets offered I would have liked the ammunition boxes to have had separate carrying handles as that would have allowed them to be shown being handled. MMC stands for Multi-Mission Compatible and is in reality a full system not just the ammunition box. While looking for images covering the ammunition boxes I found that as they are not the sexy part they made me struggle; the result is an image of the LF3D060 set ammunition can and a video where the LF3D059 ammunition box can be seen. I was unable to locate images of the batteries for the system; what I did find that is kind of worrying is that civilians in some part of the USA can buy this weapons system for $125,000 !!!
While the guns get all the attention it needs to be remembered that this system can fire in excess of 3,000 rounds a minute and so ammunition becomes important pretty quickly. These two offerings from Legend Productions offers the modeller a couple of nice sets that can be shown as stowage or moved into position ready for use. When you think that this system uses the 7.62mm round the weight and size of these containers make quite large items for stowage. I like the detail that has been provided and would only have liked to see the carrying handles separated from the boxes.
